I wonder if Lilly’s strategy extends to their hiring process to identify those who will fit into their ways of thinking & executing the strategy. If the point is to empower small teams with greater autonomy, then perhaps certain personality traits are highly desirable.
That’s a valid point-as Lilly’s star has risen, Pfizer’s has declined in concert. I’m sure you can get a lot more bang for your buck in Indianapolis than in NY. OTOH so much drug development is based around virtual Zoom meetings so perhaps geography matters less nowadays?
Heard so much this week at JPM about how much comes (even if intangibly) from in-person - I suspect embracing a biotech model could be a large pharma model, if teams who work together are together physically
It's an interesting point, and one I don't have a definitive answer to. I know there always was a 'Lilly' phenotype, people who'd go work in Indianapolis - I don't know if that's still there, any more than Pfizer's 'New York-ness'
